It really took me a while to think of a name for this blog, but I think I really like the one I landed on.
Hopefully Psalm 127 will help explain the meaning behind "My Quiver and Arrows"
1Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. 2It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep. 3Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. 4Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. 5Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
I think these verses are, or are in the running for my life verse. It just grabbs everything that means the world to me and wraps it into one.
It is so important to me that God build our house, and not us. Afterall, He is the one who gave it to us. As, I grew into a man one of my favorite blessings that God gave me was the opportunity to learn how to build a house from my dad. I was able to work next to him every summer and winter when school was out. First, carrying boards while taking mental notes of everything dad did. Then, as I learned year after year, I eventually worked my way into cutting and building with little supervision.
As blazing hot and bitter cold as some of those days were, the benefit they yeilded far out-weighs the pain involved. Over all I did end up learning how to build a house. It was a great benefit learning from my dad because he cared so much about his job and the end product. I learned what kind of care a master builder put into his work.
I think that is why the first part of Psalm 127 means so much to me. As great as my dad was and as much care as he put into each house, God cares infinitely more about our home. The same applies to us. As much as we love our house and family, God's love for our home exceeds anything we can imagine. So it only makes sense to allow the Master builder to craft our home, because in the end if we build it with our efforts it may be worthless.
My prayer for you today is that as you give what you can to our family. Kareah, your constant care and attention to everything and everyone. Chloe, your six year old abilities of cleaning your room, the playroom, and obeying your mommy and daddy, as well as making new friends and creating your art. Corban, your effortless attention to adventure and danger, while learning to obey your mommy and daddy. And last but not least, Ezra and your ability to bless the day with a single breath. While your doing all the things you are good at, let God be the one building the moments and blessing the opportunities.
